Norwich Works: The Industrial Photography of Walter and Rita Nurnberg / "Between 1948 and 1961, German-born husband and wife Walter and Rita Nurnberg photographed the factories of Norwich and their workers. These stunning photographs, which owe as much to Rita’s skilful processing as they do to Walter’s original compositions, go beyond the documenting of industry. Meticulously choreographed images of the factories are infused with the high modernism of the Bauhaus, whilst striking portraits of workers lean into the glamour and beauty of cinema’s golden age; from the time-worn faces of the master artisan to the teenage apprentices shining with enthusiasm, the Nurnbergs’ photographs are both local history and enduring works of art. The exhibition includes over 130 original prints focusing on the extraordinary visual record the Nurnbergs created of Norwich striving to rebuild itself economically after the Second World War."

Evelyn Hofer / "The first UK solo exhibition of the German-American photographer Evelyn Hofer (1922-2009). It features Hofer’s characteristically considered, large-format portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes and domestic interiors, many of which demonstrate her preference for the complex colour dye transfer process. New York Times art critic Hilton Kramer described Hofer as ‘the most famous unknown photographer in America’, a description that still rings true today. From black and white portraits in London and Wales to the vibrant colour of street and park life in New York and Washington, Hofer shot in colour and black and white throughout her career, using whichever she thought right for her subjects. With a keen sense of class structure, her portraits give equal measure to her subjects; from a waitress at the Garrick Club in London and gravediggers in Dublin, to the uniformed Joint Chiefs in Washington's corridors of power."

Paul McCartney, Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm / "An unprecedented exhibition, revealing extraordinary photographs taken by Paul McCartney. It focusses on portraits captured using his own camera, between December 1963 and February 1964 – a time when The Beatles were catapulted from a British sensation to a global phenomenon. These never-before-seen images offer a uniquely personal perspective on what it was like to be a Beatle at the start of Beatlemania, and adjusting from playing gigs on UK stages to performing to 73 million Americans on The Ed Sullivan Show. At a time when so many camera lenses were on the band, McCartney’s photographs offer a crucial new perspective on the story of a band creating cultural history, in one of its most exciting chapters."

Yevonde: Life and Colour / "An exploration of the life and career of Yevonde, the pioneering London photographer who spearheaded the use of colour photography in the 1930s. Yevonde: Life and Colour tells the story of a woman who gained freedom through photography – as she experimented with her medium and blazed a new trail for portrait photographers. The exhibition features portraits and still-life works produced by Yevonde over a colourful sixty-year career, and draws on the archive of her work acquired by the Gallery in 2021, as well as extensive new research by the NPG."
